Here are 5 ways you can repurpose an old dresser:
A Unit for Your TV and Sound System
Simply take out the drawers and support beams inside the dresser and keep drawers for another project. Just doing this presents a whole new item but of course it doesn’t end there. You might want to leave a few drawers in to hold remotes and cables but that is really up to you. A great deal of sanding will give you a surface to repaint and you might want to replace the handles on the drawers. To avoid gaping holes which would be undesirable, consider replacing some of the bottom drawers with wicker baskets for extra storage. It really comes down to what you would like to see.
2. China Cabinet
Remove your drawers which again can be used for another project and consider the type of colour goes with your kitchen decor. This will mean a pit of sanding down as dressers are usually darker and wouldn’t suit the kitchen environment. Pick the colour you desire and give your dresser a few licks of paint and voila…a china cabinet. You can then go ahead and arrange all your precious china.
3. Bathroom Vanity
An old dresser can easily be turned into a bathroom vanity. You’ll need to remove the back for the plumbing but this would not require much work at all. Maybe a lick of paint to match the bathroom but leaving much of the details to bring some of those old charm into your modern bathroom.
You don’t need to pop into the furniture store to upgrade, just grab something old and upcycle. Remember to Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle and auction is the perfect way to start.
